ADULT FORUMS
Most Sundays interested
parishioners meet for study and conversation, either between the
services or following the later 10:00 a.m. service. Sometimes we
discuss theological issues or the lectionary scripture passages
for that day. At other times we discuss topics such as: dying
and death and end-of-life issues; various methods of
interpreting scripture; issues of war, peace, human sexuality,
Church politics; and books such as Listening for
God and the novel The Life of Pi.
Often, but not always clergy led, these programs are designed to
engage your heart and your mind in the integration of church
with the rest of our lives and the world. Please come and join
us.
BIBLE STUDIES
A group meets in our parish
hall each Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. and finishes
promptly at 7:30 a.m., fall through spring. Comprised by members
of St. Alban's parish as well as friends from the community.
They usually spend the year working through one book of the
Bible. All are welcome. And coffee and pastries are always
served. Please pay the Tuesday group a visit.
From September through May a
lively Bible study takes place on Wednesday morning from
10:30 to 10:50 a.m., prior to the 11:00 a.m. Wednesday
Eucharist. Hosted by the Rector, but led by all, the
conversations often focus on the lectionary scripture passages
chosen for the coming Sunday. No preparation is necessary.
Please feel free to join the Rector's Bible Study anytime.
END-OF-LIFE DECISION MAKING
Facing our mortality is a
central part of the Christian enterprise and our lives here at
St. Alban's. Mortality is a reality that need not be depressing.
Instead, our mortality should be a source of strength and
courage, for we believe that through Christ's death and
resurrection, sin, suffering, and death have lost their sting.
Thus, death, while still a difficult reality to face up to, need
not be feared as the end of our existence. The clergy at St.
Alban's regularly address these issues as part of our
counseling, teaching, and preaching ministry. Furthermore, the
words and actions of the Eucharist directly address and embody
the realities of life and death.
INQUIRERS' CLASS
Once a year, and at other
times upon request, the Rector hosts an Inquirers' Class for
people who would like to learn more about Christianity and
particularly The Episcopal Church. The class typically meets on
four to six Sunday evenings, which include dinner, presentation
and discussion. The class is designed to engage long-time
veterans of the Church and people who are brand new to the
Episcopal tradition. No preparation is necessary. All are
welcome and encouraged to attend.
